Tech Tip–Regular Computer Maintenance
Today’s tech tip is about keeping your computer running smooth. There is nothing for frustrating for a writer than a slow computer. For my part, it drives me nuts. To avoid computer slowdowns, I regularly perform maintenance on my computer.
Windows writes temporary files for what you do on your computer. After awhile, temp directories become filled. This is when you may experience reductions in computer performance. One thing you can do is to clear out these temporary files.
Two programs can help, Glary Utilities and CCleaner. Both target these temp files. I run both even though they have similar functions. Each program seems to have its own specialty. Running one after the other always identifies extra files for removal.
I run these programs once a week. Sure, I’m probably a bit anal about this, but I work on my computer–a lot. I’m also constantly trying out new programs. Thank LifeHacker and Mashable for that.
