On Google’s behalf, it did give authors the option to opt out.  As soon as I heard of their plans, I did just that with our self-published book.  That project was a lot of work.  Being the goal as a writer to make money off of book sales, darn right I wasn’t about to let it be scanned by Google.

I’m curious why they would even consider such a move.  The lawsuit by the Authors Guild was inevitable.  Artists of all media types guard their work tenaciously.  Look at the furor websites like Napster have caused.  Google’s plans were not about to go unchecked.

It’s hard work getting published these days.  It’s hard to get noticed.  Kudos to the Authors Guild for recognizing the work of authors everywhere.  Photo by AMagill
