Another Way To Edit

I stumbled upon a great tool to help in the editing process. We all know that reading our work aloud is essential to revision. One needs to hear one’s words aloud for the proper fit, good grammar, and feel for the style. YRead takes this one step further. It “reads” a plain text document that you create from your work. The male voice reads the book slowly, in a storytelling kind of way. Sure there are a few words mispronounced here and there, which you can correct, by the way. The inflection that you may put into your work isn’t there, but to hear your work read aloud so you can hear how someone else would hear it is enormously helpful. And what can I say; it’s a bit of an ego rush to hear someone reading my book.

The software is free. You can even have books from the Gutenberg collection read aloud to you. While on the YRead site, you may also want to check out the other free software including the novel writing software, yWriter software.
